BUTTERFLY — Competent Swimming

TECHNIQUE TRANSFER

  • Skills from the three other strokes are used in butterfly breath mechanics, leg and arms actions, undulation.
  • Butterfly is reverved for swimmers with a basic understanding of the water
  • Seen as the hardest stroke to learn given key techniques of swimming are needed
BUTTERFLY — Competent Swimming

ENERGETICALLY DEMANDING

  • Full body engagement using powerful muscle groups simultaneously. With perfect form, you will burn 1000 calories/hour.
  • Each breath during undulation is expensive, distrupting streamline movement and costing further energy
  • Complex coordination and timing means swimmers must use proper form at all times or risk causing further drag
BUTTERFLY — Competent Swimming

BLOW YOUR FRIENDS AWAY

  • Dramatic and epic visually
  • Synchronous and powerful movement allows butterfly to be a crowd pleaser
  • Full use of technique elegantly represents core swimming understanding
