PUSH PAST YOUR COMFORT ZONE
Water confidence isn’t as easy as it sounds.
First time swimmers feel alien to the experience of losing normal control and needing to discover new ways to move in the water. Water confidence is debatably the biggest mental block in one’s ability to progress. Remember the more relaxed your body is, the better you will swim.

WATER CONFIDENCE
STAY CALM
- Easier said than done
- You need to always be relaxed and not tense
- Poor water confidence can be a downward spiral if not managed
PRACTICE THE EASY BIT
- If you have a bath at home, practice putting your face in the water.
- This will accelerate your progress with less time being spent on easy exercises.
- You will also learn how to relax while not having access to oxygen on demand.
TAKE YOUR TIME
- You are not racing. Be sure to perform exercises without rushing
- Rushing will make you prone to mistakes and may drop your confidence even more.
- Taking one step back helps you assess what exactly you need to do, enabling you to swim two places forwards
